Magical snaps from the past
In 1894, before the invention of movies, psychologist and creator of the IQ test Alfred Binet studied French sleight-of-hand artist Raynaly. He wanted to see if the hand was quicker than the eye. He called on chronophotographer Georges Demeny, who captured the tricks with a rapid sequence of still photographs. Only 23 original photographs survive, but when computer animated they show a wonderful performance of the vanishing ball.
